Knowing your child struggles to read can leave you feeling frustrated and thinking you’re failing as a parent. I struggled to read as a child. I was entering 5th-grade reading at a second-grade level and it took the determination of my mom to discover that I struggled to read. She got the help I needed, through 1:1 tutoring, and by the time I entered Middle School I was reading on grade level with my peers and loving reading! My confidence skyrocketed and I was more motivated to read on my own.
When I began my career as a second-grade teacher I noticed that lots of kids were struggling to read just like I did; I took this as a spiritual attack on our kids. This is when I decided to start The Lone Star Tutor, so I can help kids in kindergarten through grade four master letter sounds and fluency so that they can feel the confidence and motivation that I did going into middle school!
Through this process, we will consult to determine your child’s current strengths and needs for growth in reading. This will help me to create a tailored plan to support your child and help them feel confident and motivated when reading.
